Simple...use McCann's Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal (made only from the whole grain of Irish Oats.. find more on www.mccanns )

I find mine in our local HEB chain grocery store.

I cut the recipe in ? soooo

around 9:30 to 10:00 p.m. (or earlier)

butter slightly a triplette pan (but I do think you probably wouldn't have to)and add:
? cup oats
pinch of salt if you remember
2 C. boiling water
clamp the lid on, and place in Thermowell

get the coffee pot ready for the morning,
pull up the quilt, get the down pillow just right and zzzzzzzzzz

Some mornings we use Maple Grove Farms Pure Maple Syrup..no milk because the oatmeal is so smooth. lots of options...V

Hi Mrs, V,

Do you turn the gas on for a certain amount of time, or does the pilot heat it enough, or don't you add any heat at all?

I do steel cut oats in a crock pot overnight on occassion, but I start with cold water, and then use the low heat option overnight. It's nice and creamy, but the continued heat all night dries out the surface and turns it dark. I imagine you don't get that problem with the thermowell.

Jenn,

No, no extra heat, the boiling water and then the pilot light is sufficient, no dried out top or change of color, just very smooth and creamy depending on exact measurement of water to oats...V

I will definitely try it when I get my stove up and running!

Thank you for the clarification about the heat. Pilot required.
